Understand the difference between Agent and Co-Pilot modes and how to switch between them

Two ways to use Ko

Ko has two modes, designed for different ways of working:

  • Co-Pilot mode: Ko opens as a panel on the right side of the Terminal. Use this when you want to ask quick questions while keeping your current page visible β€” helpful for getting context on what you're looking at without losing your place.

  • Agent mode: Ko opens as a full-page experience with your conversation history in a sidebar. Use this when you want to have a longer conversation, explore topics in depth, or refer back to previous chats.

Switching between modes

To change modes:

  1. Click the settings icon (gear) in the bottom left corner of the Terminal

  2. Select either Agent or Co-Pilot

Conversation history

In Agent mode, your previous conversations appear in the left sidebar, organised by date (Yesterday, This Month, Older). Click any conversation to continue where you left off.

In Co-Pilot mode, you can start a new conversation each time or continue your current session while browsing the Terminal.

Which mode should I use?

  • Use Co-Pilot when you want to quickly ask a question about something you're viewing in the Terminal

  • Use Agent when you want to have a deeper conversation, compare information across topics, or revisit previous chats

Both modes have access to the same capabilities β€” the difference is just how the interface is displayed.
