Subscriptions at Modo Energy are structured in a way to enable our customers, the teams working on battery energy storage across the globe, to get the best value possible.

As we iterate on the product and how we support our existing and new customers, our pricing and subscriptions also improve over time.

Broadly, there are 4 ways people get value out of Modo Energy:

  1. Paid subscriptions - recurring annual subscriptions for the deepest level of value

  2. Pay as you go - paying for forecasts as one-offs

  3. Free access - creating an account but not paying anything

  4. Open access - without registering an account

We go into more detail below, but if you want the full feature list it can be found here.

1. Paid subscriptions

There are three levels of subscription to Modo Energy. Each of them suit a different type of team:

Subscription

Pro

Business

Enterprise

Who's it for?

Investors and developers who are starting their journey with battery energy storage.

Owners, investors, and operators of battery energy storage.

Utilities and data-driven and scaling owners, investors, and operators.

What's included?

The data and tools stay on top of a rapidly evolving industry.

Everything you need to value and manage a portfolio of batteries.

Customization and exclusive access to the Modo Energy team.

Things you should know:

  • Unlimited users - all of our subscriptions (including our Free plan) come with an unlimited number of seats.

  • Usage based additions - for our Pro and Business plans there is a cost of creating new forecasts. You can read more about our usage-based pricing here.

  • Regions - all of our pricing is split per region so that you don't end up paying for regions that you're interesting in. If you're interested in subscribing to more than one region then we'd recommend speaking to one of our team.

2. Pay as you go

Looking at battery energy storage opportunities or valuing existing assets repeatedly over the course of a year? Subscriptions provide the best value.

Just getting comfortable with Modo Energy, or just looking at a single battery energy storage asset as a one-off? Pay as you go might be right for you.

Pay as you go gives you access to the Modo Energy forecast model with needing a subscription and without all of the additional features included in a subscription.

How does it work?

  1. You get a one-off onboarding onto the Modo Energy terminal and forecast model.

  2. And then you and your team (with unlimited users) can then run the forecast model as many times as you like purchasing credits for each run. See more on usage-based pricing here.

3. Free access

There are three reasons anyone should sign up to our free plan:

Research

  • Most of our research sits behind a paywall and is available to subscribers of our paid plans.

  • However, the research included in our free plan provides anyone new to the industry with a solid foundation to develop a career in battery energy storage and energy markets more broadly.

  • Having access to the full library system for research also makes finding articles and the information you need a whole lot easier.

Data

  • On the journey of producing indices and forecasts there is a huge amount of data that we ingest, clean, and process.

  • Where this data is from a freely available source, e.g. ERCOT or Elexon, we make this data available to use for free.

  • Users on our free plan have access to huge amounts of cleaned data all in one place.

  • This data can be accessed via:

    • our Plotter

    • our Data Library

    • our API

Personalization

  • Creating a free account lets you control the region(s) you see on Modo Energy.

4. Open access

Some key elements of Modo Energy are (at least partially) available without needing to create an account at all. All of these products can be accessed here.

Indices

  • The Modo Energy BESS Indices are made available without users having to create an account.

  • We believe that for an index to be used and have the impact we want it to have, it needs to be readily available without conditions on access.

  • More detail on the indices is provided to paid subscribers, but the index number and full methodology is made fully public so that the industry can use it without fear of losing access.

Documentation

  • Transparency is a key part of our business (both internally and externally).

  • So that you can make an informed decision before using any Modo Energy products, our documentation is all public.

  • This includes:

    • Indices methodologies

    • Forecast methodologies

    • Full API reference

Research

  • Most of our research sits behind a paywall and is available to subscribers of our paid plans.

  • However, we publish a significant amount of fully open research and content (e.g. The Energy Academy and our podcasts) as well as executive summaries of all of our research being publicly available.
